Sculptural Manifesto
Mylene Costa

VOLUME II · PRESENCE, SILENCE AND PERMANENCE · 2026
The work is not born to explain.
It sustains itself.
Form is neither conclusion nor answer.
It is presence.
It does not react to discourse, illustrate concepts, or negotiate meaning.
It precedes any reading.
Silence does not surround the work.
It structures it.
It is within silence that form remains whole, without noise, urgency, or spectacle.
Time is not an external context.
It is body.
The work does not occur in an instant, nor does it exhaust itself at first glance.
It requires permanence, coexistence, and duration.
My sculpture does not close itself.
It remains open to experience, not to hurried interpretation.
It does not seek impact.
It seeks sustenance.
Form, silence, and time are not themes.
They are the way the work exists.
The work does not call.
It remains.
